In 2024, UI Racing Team is proud to represent Indonesia at the Formula Student Czech Republic competition, held from August 5–10, 2024. Formula Student is an international engineering competition that challenges students to design, build, and compete with a formula-style race car. Participating in this competition is a vital milestone for our team, showcasing our commitment to innovation and excellence in motorsport and manufacturing.
First Phase: The Birth of a New Team and Initial Design Phase
The journey of UIRT24 began with the formation of a new team after a rigorous recruitment process. As the team came together, we embarked on the design phase, laying the foundation for our car. This stage involved a comprehensive approach to every aspect of the vehicle, from major components like the chassis and powertrain to finer details such as suspension geometry and aerodynamic elements. Through extensive simulations and in-depth research, we discovered innovative solutions and finalized the optimal design for our competition car.
Phase 2: The Manufacturing Process
Manufacturing marked the most crucial phase of our journey, where we turned our concepts into reality. This stage tested our skills, knowledge, and teamwork as we worked to fabricate each part of the car with precision. From constructing the lightweight chassis to machining critical components and assembling the drivetrain, every detail demanded meticulous attention. The manufacturing process also included integrating cutting-edge materials and technologies, ensuring that the car met the stringent safety and performance standards of Formula Student. This phase was a true testament to the team’s dedication and perseverance.
Phase 3: Testing and Validation
After completing the manufacturing process, the next step was rigorous testing and validation. This phase ensured that our car’s performance and quality aligned with our designs and adhered to the 2024 competition regulations. We conducted dynamic tests to evaluate acceleration, braking, and cornering capabilities, while professional drivers provided valuable feedback on the car’s handling and performance. Simultaneously, the team identified the most skilled drivers to represent us during the competition. This stage was essential to refine our car and prepare it for the challenges ahead.
Phase 4: Preparation and Finalization
With the car’s development nearing completion, we focused on preparing for the competition. By June, we launched our car, symbolizing the start of our journey to success. Alongside preparing for the dynamic events, our team worked tirelessly on static events such as engineering design, cost & report, and also business presentation. This phase involved collaboration with sponsors and stakeholders, whose support was instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and represent Indonesia on the global stage.
The Challenge Begins: August 5–10, 2024
The Formula Student Czech Republic competition was the moment of truth for our team. As Indonesia’s sole representative, we competed against over 20 teams from around the world. Despite being a debutant team, we successfully passed scrutineering, demonstrating that our car met all regulations. This achievement allowed us to compete in dynamic events, showcasing the car’s performance to an international audience. On the static side, our team excelled, securing our first-ever podium finish in UI Racing Team’s history. This success was made possible through the unwavering collaboration of our team members, sponsors, and stakeholders, whose contributions allowed us to proudly elevate the names of Indonesia and Universitas Indonesia on the international stage.
