Since its inception, the UI Racing Team has been a force to be reckoned with, blending passion, engineering prowess, and sheer determination to push the boundaries of motorsports. What started as a small group of enthusiasts with a shared love for building cars has transformed into a well-respected name in competitive events. Over the years, the team has not only showcased remarkable performances on the track but also pioneered advancements in racing technology especially as students. From its humble beginnings to its most triumphant moments, the story of UI Racing Team is one of grit, growth, and groundbreaking achievements.
Back during the pandemic, the world wasn’t really the best place to score some achievements. The year 2021 has been a difficult year for everyone, and not to mention UI Racing Team. On 2021, UI Racing Team were just a small team who’s trying their best to revive the team. We focused on building and developing the structure of the team and what our purposes are as a team. Until 2022, we decided to recruit more people and officially run as a Formula Student team. The small team that consisted of a few dozen people, we became a team runned by more than 100 people. Still, until then our team’s main focus was just being able to build a running Formula Student car, not even dare to think about participating in any events. Struggling in every aspect such as financial, mental, and even knowledge on how to manage and run a Formula Student team and how to build a Formula Student car.
The First Round of Green Lights
Even though we faced an enormous amount of struggle, unexpectedly we managed to build their car sooner than their targeted timeline. Due to the amazing teamwork of building the car, we decided to finally register themselves to join Formula Student Czech Republic or FS Czech 2023. Participating without any targets to achieve, surprisingly we could manage to come home with an amazing result in their hands. We came home with 7th place Business Plan and Presentation, 10th place in cost and manufacturing, and 14th place in Engineering Design under the team’s name. This motivated us to work harder and work on more innovation to become a better Formula Student team.
The Second Lights Out to Podium
Coming home with those amazing results, the 2024 team decided to work lour passion off to participate in Formula Student Czech Republic or FS Czech 2024. With the knowledge and experience we have from participating in FS Czech 2023, we managed to build an amazing car; UIRT-02. Participating in the same event, the UIRT-02 managed to help the team to bag even more amazing results than last year. The achievements UIRT-02 brought are: an amazing 3rd place in Business and Plan Presentation, 6th in Cost and Manufacturing, 11th in Autocross, 13th in Engineering Design, and 13th overall. With this achievement we made Indonesia proud in the international arena.
Looking Back At History
What we may never really talk about before was our first trip to face the chequered flag. The Formula SAE Japan 2018 was marked as our first international journey in chasing victories. Our first generation fought their way by building, designing, and manufacturing the car from zero which then became a hero. Facing a lot of technical and logistical challenges, doesn’t let our team down. Coming home with 79th place in Overall, motivates us to keep pushing forward.

With deep respect for the incredible legacy built by previous generations, the team strives to uphold and surpass their past successes, aiming to achieve even more remarkable results. Our ultimate goal is to establish themselves as a leading force in the Formula Student competition, proudly representing Indonesia on the global stage.
